Privé Porter’s Guide To: The Hermès Preservation Secrets Of A Top Collector
Every Hermès collector dreams about the closet.
The colors. The exotics. The shelves lined with Birkins and Kellys in every shade imaginable.
But what separates a collector from a serious collector? Maintenance.
Luxury creator and Hermès collector Jamie Chua recently shared a detailed look inside her collection and walked followers through exactly how she stores and preserves her bags long term and honestly… we love this content.
Because while everyone talks about getting the bag, fewer people talk about keeping the bag beautiful.
Her routine focused on a few key principles:
✨ Maintaining moderate humidity levels
According to her setup, she aims for humidity around the mid-range rather than extremely dry or overly humid conditions.

✨ Reducing pressure points
She explained that she loosens closures and avoids leaving bags under unnecessary tension to help maintain structure and create more even aging over time.
✨ Being mindful of lighting
One of her biggest points was avoiding direct light and thinking carefully about indoor exposure too, especially over long periods.
✨ Preserving shape thoughtfully
She lightly stuffs bags to help support structure while avoiding overfilling.
✨ Rotation matters
One of our favorite takeaways: rotate your collection. Instead of exposing the same pieces to identical conditions continuously, she changes things up.
✨ Clean Hands!
For obvious reasons..
One detail she shared that we found especially interesting had nothing to do with humidity or organization—it was her approach to long-term consistency across the collection.

She explained that she often stores her Hermès bags with the sangles relaxed rather than tightly closed because areas exposed to constant pressure and contact may age differently over time. Her goal isn’t preventing change—it’s encouraging the bags to develop more consistently over years of ownership.
Whether every collector follows the same philosophy or not, we loved getting a glimpse into the kind of details people start thinking about once collecting becomes a true archive rather than simply acquiring bags.
And of course… the visual of shelves filled with colorful Birkins, Kellys, exotics, rare pieces, and collector favorites didn’t hurt either.
There’s something endlessly fascinating about getting a peek inside collections like this. Not because of the quantity but because you start noticing the habits and rituals that come with collecting at this level.
We’ll always stop for a closet tour.
